How Does Licenseplates.tv Manufacture Its Plates
The license plate manufacturing process has basically remained the same for over one-hundred years. Although the license plate manufacturing methodology has remained same, new technology and materials have made the process efficient producing license plates with a 7 year lifespan. Licenseplates.tv manufactures license plates using modern technology and implements engineering methods which has been refined over the past 25 years. The use of Aluminum as a base metal to manufacture license plates was introduced nearly 40 years ago in the United States replacing steel. Steel was not a great choice for license plate manufacture because of rusting. The prison systems manufacturing license plates for the 50 states had to build elaborate etching and wash baths and elaborate paint facilities to prevent steel plates from rusting. The European license plate manufacturers used Aluminum with the exception of the United Kingdom and Norway which used Acrylic. The primary material used in license plate manufacturing today is Aluminum as a substrate which was covered with a retro-reflective film (known as sheeting in the industry). This material was invented by 3M but many other companies have introduced competing license plate sheeting like Avery Dennison, Nikolite and Orafol.
The European Plate Manufacturing Process:
STEP 1:
Every plate starts out with a blank imported from Europe.
STEP 2:
This aluminum blank is embossed or stamped with the correct tool and dies of your custom letters & numbers. The embossing raises the areas of the plate that will be painted.
STEP 3:
The embossed or stamped plate is then sent through our number coating system and coated with a special long lasting color pigment
STEP 4:
The plate is sent through another coating system where the embossed areas (raised numbers and letters) are clear-coated for maximum protection and attractiveness. Any necessary decals are also applied to the plate.
The USA State Plate Manufacturing Process:
STEP 1:
Every plate starts out from a colored piece of aluminum.
STEP 2:
This aluminum blank is embossed or stamped with the correct tool and dies of your custom letters & numbers. The embossing raises the areas of the plate that will be painted.
STEP 3:
The embossed plate is then sent through our coating system and the raised areas is finished coated with a special long lasting pigment.
STEP 4:
The plate is sent through another coating system where the embossed areas (raised numbers and letters) are clear-coated for maximum protection and attractiveness.
The International Plate Manufacturing Process:
STEP 1:

Serious car collectors and auto enthusiasts depend on Licenseplates.tv’s experience to design and manufacture license plates for car shows, photo shoots, movies, commercials or to be placed on the front of motor vehicles in states where only a single license plate on the rear of vehicles is required. Lately, jurisdictions have been issuing flat license plates using a digital process. This system of manufacturing is more efficient than the manufacturing of embossed license plates but the flat finished license plates have not been a big hit with old car enthusiasts. The ease of manufacturing numerous designs but small quantity license plates makes the digital plates system popular in the state prison manufacturing plants.
